Heiji Hattori
a teenager with gunshot scars; gossip buddy and trusted friend
| One of the original nine, Heiji's been gungho about working with the group to escape since the beginning. He seems friendly with most of the group, and he hit it off with Hershel right away.
| Heiji allowed Hershel to pick ally with Jake despite the risk to Heiji's BP. Hershel still feels like he owes him. Heiji is also one of the few who heard his secret during Heart of the Matter. Heiji's poisoning has upped his concern for the budding detective and raises concerns that Zero may try something against him.
| Heiji is one of the three in the game during Akiko's murder that Hershel believes without a shadow of a doubt did not kill her.
Ema Skye
a woman of questionable decisions; science nerd and trusted friend
| One of the original nine, Ema was on the first team Hershel was and, Hershel suspects, the only reason he wasn't betrayed that round. She seems to get along with most of the group, and Hershel respected her quickly.
| Ema told him not to be a doormat all the time and do what he thought was right, advice that helped him greatly as rounds progressed. This won her his lasting gratitude to this day, even when she's ruining his life with truth or dare. Recently he's been concerned she seemed troubled by what he assumes is a memory regain.
| He worries a great deal that Ema does not take her life, safety and health with the same care she treats his and others with. She is one of the few people present during Akiko's death that he believes without a doubt did not kill her.
Jake Muller
jake the everyone stabber; pighead and trusted friend
| One of the original nine, Jake was on Hershel's first three teams. His betrayal of Clive in round two when Jake and Hershel were paired was a big problem, but Hershel has since forgiven him completely for it, even if Clive hasn't forgiven Jake. Spent most of Survivor hanging out with Jake.
| Jake may have gotten Heiji, Hershel and himself stabbed. Hershel doesn't blame him, things happen alright. That same round he kept his word and allied, cementing Hershel's trust in him. His behavior in the Morality room worries Hershel, and he assumes from what he knows of Jake's memories that something happened to his mother.
| When it comes down to it Jake has shown him a lot of kindness, and Hershel worries about Jake's reputation and how that will hurt Jake in the long run. He is one of the only people present during Akiko's murder that Hershel believes beyond a shadow of a doubt did not kill her.
Snake
a regal looking blind man; pianist and good friend
| One of the original nine, Hershel has known Snake through Heiji mostly at first. Since recent events and puzzle rooms they've grown closer. He seems distrustful sometimes but has tried to help the group individually and at large.
| During Bingo Hershel learned two of Snake's secrets, the beginning of them becoming closer. Hershel has since started motherhenning him after he was injured performing a 'show' with Ema. His recent memory regain has also put him on the fusspot radar.
| Snake checking up on him after Akiko's death had an impact, and Hershel's grateful for the empathy. He worries about Snake's health and willingness to get injured for the 'show' and plans on keeping an eye on him in hopes he can help.
Clive Dove
a young man completely devoid of luck; reporter and trusted friend
| One of the original nine, Hershel and Clive went through round two together on good terms, until Jake, partnered with Hershel, hit betray on Clive. Needless to say Clive was not pleased.
| The memory Hershel regained for this betrayal was of his first meeting with Clive. He doesn't understand it fully but he feels as though Clive helped him a great deal during this. Recently Clive has forgiven him and become more of a staple in Hershel's social group, much to Hershel's relieved delight.
| More than anything Hershel wants to believe the very best in Clive, and has held on to that through the rounds, despite their various, awkward encounters, though thankfully those are now in the past. He worries a great deal about Clive's incredibly bad situation, luck and likely deteriorating mental state.
Zelos Wilder
a strange man with very nice hair; rockstar and respected player
| One of the original nine, Hershel and Zelos have yet to go through a room or vote against one another. They have spoken occasionally, and Hershel finds he respects Zelos's opinion of things, because it's often more pragmatic than others in the game.
| Zelos made the effort to cheer up Hershel after round 2's betrayal, something Hershel remembers and is still grateful for. He also put himself in some trouble helping Hershel against some robots, making Hershel respect him further.
| Hershel is unsure about Zelos's betrayal of Clive but wishes to give Zelos the benefit of the doubt over what happened, especially given Zelos's apparent distrust of Jake and the motive event at the time. He also thinks Zelos is kind of a cool badass now, what with the fencing.
Enjolras
a very determined french man; activist and friend
| A newer test subject, Enjolras was absent for a while due to the illness, and when he returned he had little he could share about it. He seemed a bit on the prickly side, but Hershel can't help but agree with some of what he says, even if it is sometimes too extreme for him.
| Hershel found himself respecting Enjolras's spirit and dedication to his own ideals quite a bit. Part of him finds it admirable, a trait he simply doesn't share but can appreciate.
| He worries a great deal about how far Enjolras is willing to go for said ideals, more so with regards to Enjolras's life and safety. In some way he hopes he can help temper the man somewhat to keep him from getting hurt or worse.
Piper Chapman
a clever woman; random fact fountain and respected player
| A newer test subject, Piper's first puzzle room was with Hershel and Snake. It went smoothly, inside and outside of the room, and the pair Piper and Snake allied with solo Hershel.
| They haven't spoken much, only during the room and during Piper's arrival, but during those instances Piper seemed to know a lot of random things, cementing her as a clever person in Hershel's mind.
| He may have stuck his foot in his mouth a couple of times with her though, go figure. That said she has in turn flustered the hell out of him with talks about cute girlfriends and sexuality, so it's an endless cycle of hilarity.
Sasuke Sagami
a very quiet boy; kendo club member and trusted friend
| A newer test subject, Sasuke had the dubious honor of replacing Akiko when she was murdered. While Hershel was hardly in the best state during their initial meeting Sasuke came off well, if somewhat quiet and guarded. He has since opened up some, though he still comes off as a very quiet boy.
| Sasuke going along with Kendo club, aka Heiji and Hershel bugging Sasuke into sparring with them, definitely was a good start at becoming more friendly. Sasuke not running circles around his fencing ass in their match, also pretty bro.
| Hershel is concerned about Sasuke, being so young and almost strangely sad in demeanor. The fact Sasuke allied when up against Jake of all people definitely won him some of Hershel's respect, along with Piper. His recent troubles with grey rooms and knives have worried Hershel a lot, but his reaction to Hershel's motive from Calhoun earned him a lot of trust points.
Simon Keyes
a very fragile sort of man; fake redhead and dangerous person
| A new player, Simon's incredibly nervous and almost frail demeanor has Hershel worried from day one. He wassn't sure what to do with the man, and hopes that the shock of the elevator will wear off and he'll learn to cope with the game better. That changed.
| In their Choice grey room Simon showed a different side of himself, admitting to a lot of troubling, dangerous thing and proving himself to be an incredibly dangerous person. He mocked Hershel and Kuzu for their trust in the other players and made it clear it wasn't all that hard to put on a show and manipulate those around you.
| Simon's the first person in the game Hershel has ever been legitimately angry at, for his comments and disregard of Akiko. It was a weird feeling for a doormat.
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu
a very small Jake; angry little man and trusted friend
| When he was new player, Kuzuryuu has already struck Hershel as a smaller version of Jake, not that he was going to say much about that to either of them. Their first puzzle room was a disaster but Kuzuryuu proved not only logical and good at puzzles but he saved Hershel from a potentially fatal trap.
| While rough around the edges Kuzuryuu was often pretty good to Hershel, helping him with injuries or generally being a good conversation partner. Hershel expected him to be more impatient but as they got to know each other Kuzu mellowed a little, making that assumption false mostly.
| The events of the Choice grey room bonded him even more to Kuzu, enough for him to openly admit he considered Kuzu a friend. More so because of what happened Kuzu proved himself a reliable ally who was willing to listen to reason even when his temper was running high.
