(vivarium) memory 8

memory summary; meeting alfendi

gained through; bingo 2.0

time; day 84

They're introducing you to some of your new family today, and you can't help nervously hiding behind their heels as these tree new people come in.

One's a man in a tweed suit, one's a young woman with a light shock of pink in her hair and a smile on her face, and one's a surly teenager with messy red hair and sharp, gold eyes.

You murmur greetings as they smile down at you, all but the teenager who just looks disgruntled. Eventually you can slip away, and you hear your new mother quietly mention you're very shy and still getting used to things. It's true, you're still getting used to a lot of things.

The living room is a good hiding place when everyone goes outside, and for a while you're safe just staring out the window until someone opens the door behind you, making you jump. When you turn it's the teenager you don't remember the name of, and you guiltily look down and mumble a hello.

He doesn't seem impressed. "What are you doing here?" He asks, and you're at a loss of what to say. He tilts his head, furrows his brow, then takes a seat beside you. "Ever heard of a closed room?"

You hadn't but he explains it, and as he does something bright enters his eyes. All his surliness is gone, he's happy and passionate and alive in a way that makes you calmer somehow. There's something about him that bitterly sweet in it's familiarity, and in only a few minutes you find yourself engrossed in what he's trying to explain in the simplest terms he can.

Eventually the young woman comes by, 'Alfendi, honestly, what are you doing? Aunt Lucy told us to give him some space- is that more murder mystery nonsense? He's hardly five!' and off they both went, leaving only the paper Alfendi had been drawing on behind. It was a puzzle, and that felt almost bittersweet too, but you sit down and furrow your brow and think and think and think.

And you get it. You think.

You shyly enter the yard, trying to keep from sight as everyone mulls about talking. Of course you're spotted eventually, people smile, happy that you're coming to join and you hurry to Alfendi, sitting next to the young woman in a yard chair. You tug on his sleeve, whisper in his ear what you think the answer is, and he laughs in a way that's more like a dog barking.

"Not bad!" He crows, and you smile a little and decide to stay outside for maybe a bit longer.
